Sam Walton once said, “If you love your work, you’ll be out there every day trying to do it the best you possibly can, and pretty soon everybody around will catch the passion from you – like a fever.”  Greg Barker, our superintendent, spreads his passion every single day.

It is with mixed feelings that we announce that Greg Barker, after 22 years, is leaving New England Country Club at the end of this year.  As our Golf Course Superintendent, he put his heart and soul (and half a finger) into this property over that time and will be greatly missed.  Despite being one of the hardest working people you will ever meet.  Greg always makes time to greet members and guests with a smile.  We have huge shoes to fill and we hope that Greg will make time to come and visit often.

We are excited to officially announce today that Jeff James has agreed to take over for Greg Barker starting in 2023. Greg’s “retirement” left us with some big shoes to fill.

Last week (see picture) Greg and Jeff met for the second time. We hope these get-togethers make for a smooth transition and help get us ready for 2023 and beyond.
Jeff grew up in Vermont and has spent his entire professional career here in New England. Jeff’s comprehensive resume includes stints at Charles River CC, Charter Oak CC,, Glen Ellen GC and more recently Maplegate CC.
